Challenge

Phishing attacks are a significant cybersecurity threat, and many employees are not fully equipped to recognize or respond to them. A gap analysis revealed that employees lacked the necessary awareness and skills to identify phishing attempts and protect both personal and organizational data. This identified the need for a targeted, engaging training solution.

Solution

I developed an interactive phishing awareness course designed to equip employees with the knowledge and practical skills to recognize phishing attempts. Hosted on Canvas LMS, the course includes pre- and post-assessments, knowledge checks, and immediate feedback to help learners track their progress and retain key information. The course is designed to be practical and engaging, with real-world phishing examples tailored to employees’ roles and responsibilities.

Design Approach

The course was designed using ADDIE and Andragogy principles to ensure a learner-centered, self-paced experience. It includes:

  • Interactive elements such as knowledge checks and assessments to keep learners engaged.

  • Real-world phishing scenarios relevant to employees’ roles.

  • A pre-assessment to gauge baseline knowledge and a post-assessment to measure learning retention.

  • Automated grading and immediate feedback via Canvas LMS to track learner progress and performance.

Impact

After finishing the e-learning module, learners showed a clear improvement in their knowledge. Their pre-assessment scores started at 75%, and by the final assessment, they had gone up to 90%—a solid sign that they gained valuable insights.

Throughout the course, quiz results also showed steady progress, with learners becoming more confident as they went along.
